Business-facing solution to support local water reuse between users involved in water treatment and water management activities
Overview
Current water management systems are based on a linear economy model
This unsustainable approach is based on the incorrect idea that resources, like water, are infinite and that the environment can endlessly absorb waste and pollution
Linear economy models are wasting finite resources, creating pollution and damaging our planet.
A sustainable and practical alternative would be to apply a circular economy model approach to our use of water. A circular economy closes the loop to reuse and repurpose resources, while minimising wastage and pollution.
Project Ô has developed a Circular Economy Platform (CEP) to support business-oriented water users to close their loop of water use
Using CEP improves the circular use of resources for those involved in water treatment and water management activities
CEP has two main functions:
- To help companies choose the most appropriate treatment technologies. Water system managers and treatment facilities can use the platform’s technical, economic and environmental information to help them make the best decisions for the treatment and reuse of water. The information is reported visually to allow for comparisons between possible solutions.
- To act as a marketplace for users engaging with water treatment activities and non-domestic water use. It is designed to connect water demand, water flows and treatment technologies as part of a circular water economy. Users will be able to sell, trade or buy resources, build up a network and for the collection of water returning to the natural environment.

CEP is designed to increase the ease of engaging in a circular water economy
CEP allows key players involved in water treatment activities to interact by sharing requests, offers,
treatment technologies and logistics. It provides:

CEP will be first used in Eilat, Israel and Omiš, Croatia
The National Center for Mariculture in Eilat, Israel will use CEP as a meeting point to circulate resources allowing them to locally trade their used water and by-products. It will support them to develop new business models based on their participation in a circular water economy.
Galeb d.d. in Omiš, Croatia will use CEP to expand their business opportunities. Using the technology selection tool they can evaluate which of the Project Ô technology modules has the greatest economic and operational sustainability benefits for their water treatment needs. It also gives them the ability to identify any local opportunities for collaboration.

It fosters the creation of new opportunities and water loops
CEP and DAP are complementary technologies that address the decision-making process at two levels:
- Medium-term and distributed water resource planning at business level (CEP)
- Long-term and centralised water resource planning at regulator level (DAP)
